Astrid Domingo-Molyneux who formerly worked at the Deaf Studies is taking a two year sabbatical to travel round the world ... on a bicycle! She will leave on 6th May 2008 and does not expect to see these shores again until May 2010. En route she will visit contacts in the Deaf world and will promote and inform about the work of the Trust. More information on her trip can be found on the DST site here and the full story is on her website at www.cyclingfullcircle.com.
The DeafBlind Worlds project funded by the Lottery has reached its final phase. There will be a full published report and DVD in BSL later this year which will coincide with the dissemination conference in November. Final date to be announced. You can read a summary of the report (PDF, 57k/58k) from our Downloads page. A full report in text and Braille will be available in 2008. You can also view more details.
Sign50 has had a major upgrade. Through a collaboration with SignWales (a new community interest company in Wales) DST has supplied the latest videophones to elderly people in Bristol who have been part of the Sign50 project since 2001. Each home has been fitted with an AuPix AP100 large screen videophone. Using this videophone, the users can reach the daily Deafstation news as well as contact interpreters and receive help. We intend to expand the service as soon as funds allow.
Tom Kyle running for the Deaf Studies Trust completed the London Marathon in four hours thirty one minutes. This was a goodtime for a first marathon, run in the hottest conditions which have been experienced in the Marathon's history. The run has raised well over £1000 for the Trust. Thanks Tom!
